I was quite sceptical when I first heard of this movie, as its tiresome to think the only two ways a Pakistani film can make it internationally is by banking on:

a) ‘How Muslim/Pakistani’s are terrorists’: frankly, the first thought I had when I read about Khuda Ke Liye a year or two before its release, with anxieties thinking it would be a mullah-bashing flick, but I kept some hope knowing that it was Shoaib Mansoor, surely all his work so far speaks volumes about his esteem in his faith and culture, he couldnt hate his own people, so I hoped for the best, phew, end verdict was I needn’t have worried, it was perfect, it was everything I could’ve dreamed of, I loved it, love it and will always love his work, Mashallah.

b) ”Oh please Pakistani’s dont have an identity for ourselves, lets please bank on your Indian-ness so we can make an international hit? Otherwise we wont appeal to the global audience”, Now these were my anxieties coming to RCP, I mean, we need a film for Pakistani’s how can we possibly relate to a story about Hindu’s when they’re like a 00.1% minority in Pakistan, not like we dont have enough Indian films, overrepresenting Hindu’s and underrepresnting Muslims, surely a Pakistani film should be for US? But all that was until I went and read up on it recently and honestly, I’ve changed my mind.. I cant WAIT! for the past couple of weeks since I watched a documentary exploring ancient India and the Mughals I’ve felt really intrigued in exploring Karma, and I’ve realised how strongly I disagree with it, and suddenly feel passionate about doing something to help these untouchable castes, in the Hindu faith, so when I found out this film will explore all this and social systems, faith the difference between the Indian and Pakistani culture, I feel this film is going to be totally delicious, I hear it will have a substantial storyline, possibly a tearjerker with lots of dramatics, I dont know much about Mehreen Jabbar the director, but lets see now.. Shafqat Amanat Ali’s vocals on the soundtrack and Nandita Das as leading actress, I think shes beautiful and I’ve not seen any of her work, apart from Ghoom Tana with Salman Ahmed, but she seems a great actress, she doesnt seem to subscribe to the usual Indian glossed up fake ass acting methods and I love the fact its set against the backdrop of rural Sindh, I simply cant wait to watch this, I’m mega excited! Its like the Khuda Kay Liye frenzy all over again.

Ok, I’ve realised the second-to-last paragraph sounds sloppy and cheesy.. but hey I was being honest, hope no-one takes it too seriously haha!
